Climbing the Football Table
Thailand’s Muangthong United can leap into sixth place with a win over Police Tero F.C.
Match Day Magazine — Inside Kirin: Muangthong United vs Police Tero F.C., Sunday, March 31st, 2024.
Welcome to the Thunderdome Stadium!
Tonight, Police Tero FC will be hoping for a change in form against Muangthong United.
The ‘silver shield dragons’ are winless in eight games and facing relegation unless they can turn things around.
At the end of February, Malaysian manager Tan Cheng Hoe took charge at Tero, who are counting on his experience guiding Malaysia’s national team and Selangor FC to success.
On paper, the odds favour Muangthong. The long break for international games interrupted a return to good form with three straight wins. The squad is healthy and rested. National team players Poramet (#20) and Jaroensak (#11) have also recovered from the recent battles with South Korea.
And Welcome to the Kirin Family!
Muangthong United’s right back, Tristan Do (#19), has reason to celebrate tonight with the arrival of his son, born last Thursday.
It was a proud moment for Tristan, with the entire squad sharing his happiness and wishing him all the best.
From Paris to Bangkok — the latest chapter in this footballers story
For Tristan, it is undoubtedly the highlight of his life and the culmination of his 2014 decision to move to Thailand to play with BEC Tero Sasana, the forerunner of tonight’s opponent.
INF Claireofintaine
Born in Paris, Tristan trained at the elite INF Claireofintaine, the French national training centre that has helped produce the likes of Thierry Henri (Arsenal) and Louis Sala (Manchester United).
Entry into the academy was difficult, and Tristan was one of 24 selected from a group of 3000.
Tristan developed along with some of today’s heroes of football, such as Alphonse Areola (Paris Saint-Germaine), Jérôme Roussillon (Montpellier), Jérémie Bela (Dijon) and Raphaël Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund).
RC Strasbourg
At 16, he signed with RC Strasbourg, and by the time he was 18, Ligue 1 club Lorient came calling.
The Lorient adventure has an unfinished taste for Tristan. He was loaned out to Épinal in 2012–13 and then Gazélec Ajaccio, making 37 appearances and gaining the attention of Ligue-2 teams.
A Football Turning Point
By 2014, Tristan’s career was at a turning point. He was 21 with his best football years ahead of him. Tristan, who has Thai heritage, moved to play with Bec Tero.
After two seasons, Muangthong United signed Tristan for the first time, and with the Kirin won the league championship in 2016.
After 2018, he moved to play with Bangkok United, where he spent the next three seasons, making 94 appearances, before rejoining Muangthong United this season.
Tristan has represented Thailand 51 times in international competitions, on both the U23 side and the men’s team.
What’s Next for Muangthong United?
The Kirin are busy, with a mid-week game this Wednesday against Uthai Thani FC, and then next Saturday, they face Trat FC; both games at Thunderdome Stadium.
