How to De-Sting a Wasp
Thai League Football — Muangthong United vs PT
A preview of the Thai League-1 fixture between Muangthong United and PT Prachuap FC., Saturday November 2nd, 2024. Thunderdome Stadium. Thailand.
REMOVE THE STINGER
Prachuap won 3–0 at home over Uthai Thani on Sunday and again on Wednesday in the Revo League Cup. The Wasps are in sixth place.
In Sunday’s match, Phanthamit Praphanth (#41) scored the opening goal early in the second half and is having a great season. The 21-year-old has 3 goals and 3 assists, creating chances for the Waps.
Muangthong must also watch out for Barros Tardelli (#37). Fans will recall the damage he did in the 2020–21 season when he played at Samut Prakhan FC (now relegated). Although now 34, Tardelli is a threat. He scored on Sunday against Uthai Thani shortly after being subbed on. Tardelli also scored twice on Wednesday, one of which was a penalty goal.
The Kirin, currently 10th, need a win to boost confidence and recover their position in the table.
WHAT THE MANAGER SAYS
When you have wasps flying about you, the trick is to stay calm and not try to swat madly at them.
Instead, Gino Letteiri will look to overwhelm Prachuap by controlling the midfield. With Tristan Do or Strauss overlapping from the back, options are created moving forward, which is partly why Muangthong creates many chances.
“Every team has its weakness. We have looked closely at Prachuap and know what we have to do. Every player knows their responsibility in this game, and if we do our jobs without mistake, we can take 3 points.”
FELICIO BROWN FORBES — THE COSTA RICAN STRIKER
Striker Felicio Brown Forbes is one player with goal potential, as we saw recently at Port FC and in last week’s Champions League match against Dynamic Cebu.
The 33-year-old was born and raised in Germany. He played for Germany’s U20 team side and, through his father’s heritage, has made five appearances for Costa Rica.
Forbes is an aggressive player who wins many duals and fights to get open inside the six-yard box. His goal against Port FC came after he shrugged off a defender and pounced on a rebound.
TEAM NEWS
Muangthong United is coming off Wednesday’s disappointing Revo League Cup loss. Many starting players missed that trip to southern Thailand while recovering from Sunday’s draw at the PAT Stadium.
Central defender Abbos Otkanov has a groin injury and will be a late decision for today’s match. Emil Roback is also in doubt. The good news is the remainder of the squad is fit and rested.
FACTS-AND-STATS
Prachuap has the league’s best home game record but has not won while away in the last twenty league matches. Muangthong, meanwhile, has yet to win in six matches and has scored just five goals in five games.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Since Prachuap was promoted to Thailand’s top football league in 2018, the clubs have met 12 times, with Muangthong capturing 6 wins, Parachuap 4, and 2 draws. We’ve not lost to Prachuap in the last six outings.
The last time out was in March, at the tail end of the 2023–24 season. Muangthong United won 2–1 at the Thunderdome with goals from team captain Picha Autra and Willian Popp.
