After a long break for the Thai national football team at the AFC Asian Cup, Muangthong United are set to improve their league-1 standing.
Match Day Magazine — Inside Kirin: Muangthong United vs True Bangkok United, Friday February 9th, 2024.
Welcome to the Thunderdome Stadium and the start of the second leg of the 2023–24 season. This month will see Muangthong United battle three clubs from the top of the table, including tonight’s opponent, True Bangkok United.
The Gunn is ready
Kirin fans will have their eyes glued to #10 as Thanawat ‘Gunn’ Suengchitthawon is ready to play his first-ever Thai League match. Born in Suphanburi but raised in France, Gunn began his professional career with Nancy II in Ligue 1. After three seasons, he transferred to Leicester City in England’s premiership.
Gunn joined Muangthong United at the season’s start, but injury kept the 24-year-old sidelined. The hard work and patience of recovery are complete, and the creative midfielder is eager to showcase what he can do for Kirin fans.
Veteran Power
Muangthong United has bolstered the squad for the second leg with the addition of three veteran warriors:
- Sathaporn Daengsee (#13) is likely to start at left-back. His long career has seen him play at many of the league’s top teams, and he comes to the Kirin from T2 club Nongbua Pitchaya FC.
- Kotaro Omori (#8) is an attacking midfielder transferring from Jubilio Iwata. The 31-year-old has ten years of experience at the top level of Japanese football. His speed and footwork will torment defenders inside the opponent’s box.
- Lee Jae-sung (#40) plays centre-back. The South Korean has been in the Thai League before with Ratchaburi FC and joins from K-League 2 club Chungnam Asan FC.
Two Improved Thai Soccer Teams
This first game of the second leg brings the league’s top team to the Thunderdome. Earlier this season the the clubs played out a 0–0 stalemate. Both teams are stronger, and we’re in store for exciting football.
One addition to the Angels’ line-up is former Muangthong United midfielder Weerathep Pomphan (#27). Weerathep, who played for Thailand’s national football team at the AFC Asian Cup, joined Bangkok United during the recent transfer window.
Muangthong United’s Picha (#37) and Jaroensak (#11) also saw action during the Asian Cup.
February’s Fixtures
Muangthong United will visit Port FC next week and return to the Thunderdome on February 18th to play BG Pathum United. The month ends away at Nakhon Pathom United.
